The Media and Democracy Coalition is a collaboration of over two dozen local and national organizations committed to amplifying the public's voice in shaping media and telecommunications policy.
2008
The Coalition partnered with Tampa Bay Community Network (TBCN) to hire a full time media and democracy organizer. Because of flawed state policy making and city budgeting, Public Access Television has come under fire in Florida. The TBCN organizer is working to restore public interest policies concerning community media in Florida, building the Florida Media Coalition to fight for media democracy at both state and national levels, and leveraging TBCN's community media outlet to raise the profile of the Media and Democracy Coalition's issues.Florida Media Coalition published a series of editorials in Florida print and online venues, including Mark Hart’s “Ask for Internet Freedom on Third OneWebDay” published at Tampa Bay Online.
