The Coalition provided funds to Colorado Common Cause [1] to hire a full time media and democracy organizer. In cooperation with the Alliance for Sustainable Colorado, they hosted a Symposium on Media and Democracy [2] on August 26th at the Big Tent [3], "the place to be for new media journalists, bloggers, reporters, and non-profit leaders covering the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer."Some highlights include:
- Programming for the summit included speakers like FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, journalists Dan Rather and John Nichols, and blogger Matt Stoller. Throughout the day, audiences heard from representatives of Rock the Vote, League of Conservation Voters, the Center for Independent Media, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, Free Press, MoveOn.org, Media Access Project, the National Hispanic Media Coalition, and ACLU of Colorado. Many Coalition partners supported Colorado Common Cause to develop the programming.
- Colorado Common Cause recruited 121 Democratic Party delegates and other opinions leaders to attend the event.
- Common Cause gave out hundreds of USB flash drives containing their Media Reform Plan for a New Administration [4] to bloggers, delegates and other opniond leaders at the Big Tent.
More recently, Colorado Common Cause published an op-ed,“Encourage Net access on OneWebDay [5]” in the online Rocky Mountain News.
